Rick Hoffman's music as blackONwhite is a pure and unspoiled look to a more or less lost genre "psychedelic rock". blackONwhite has grown in the last years to be more than my recording groups name. It now encompasses numerous music project imprints. Originally in the late 80's my first recordings were as "The Rick Hoffman Set"- very spiffy. Next came Perfect Tommy as my first cd album. By then I was beginning to use the name blackONwhite as a base for my various creative projects -particularly my brand building, and graphics management business. It also became a "catch all" name for my fine arts works - album cover design, animated films and paintings. After Issues with the Perfect Tommy Name arose I started using blackONwhite as a "band- recording project name" as well. Over time different musical directions led to the development of other band projects- "Frotage"- very ephemeral- prog instrumental music and "the boomboom"- angry garage punk. Often the lines melt in these projects but the blackOnwhite label imprint now embraces the various musical styles. Still a psychedelic aura predominates it all and the true freedom of garage is everywhere. Another recording project is 2007's Eight Eye- its a group name/album name and once again focused on psychedelic. The influence seems to be Robert Wyatt's Matching Mole in their fabled live performance mode. Other projects include 2008's The Mote in Gods Eye- an attempt to return to the lyrical Arthur Lee/Love guitar driven sound which in the end morphed into the extremely hard/quasi metal machine "Secret Marine Marching Band Sessions" of 2009 which eventually mellowed out for the last few songs of the album. 	The Secret Marine Marching Band		2009 was the biggest year for songs for blackONwhite since 1988. This year almost 40 tracks were recorded creating a great selection for for the album.
